My Favorite Piece of Fashion Advice

Since I am off work today, and I work both Friday and Saturday, I am taking advantage of being home by wearing one of my favorite cozy outfits that is slightly too pajama-like to wear out in public.

I love the sleep shirts from Victoria’s Secret, so much so that I already own four of them.  They are long, cozy, and come in several chic prints.  My new favorite is this leopard print one, and I got it for under $10 at the semi-annual sale!  I sometimes wear leggings for extra warmth and comfort as well.

Days like these when I don’t have to really think too much about what I’m wearing are also the days that I feel inspired by new outfit ideas.  I too get stuck in fashion ruts, so I thought it would be fun to share with you all my favorite piece of fashion advice, from none other than Lorelai Gilmore.

First, a quick fact about me: Gilmore Girls is my favorite show of all time.  I am so excited for the Gilmore Girls Netflix re-boot coming this Fall.  If you have not yet watched Gilmore Girls, you still have time to binge watch the first seven seasons.  I promise you will love it!

A few weeks ago, I was watching an episode from season one and came across an amazing piece of fashion advice.  Rory was trying to pick an outfit for her first date with Dean, and told her mom the classic “I have nothing to wear.”  Her mom, Lorelai, then picked up a sweater off the bed and said something like, “This sweater says I just threw this on, and I look fabulous.”  Rory then said, “I’ve been staring at that sweater for twenty minutes and then you come in, and make it into an outfit.”  Lorelai smiled and explained that it was through years of fashion dilemmas that she was able to do that.

It dawned on me that like so many other things, perspective is everything.  This piece of advice can be applied to anything!  It was the first piece of advice I thought of when I found myself with only five minutes to pick out an outfit the other day, and it is the first piece of advice that I think of on days when 75% of my clothes are in the laundry basket.  But, there are many life lessons to be gleaned from Gilmore Girls, this piece of fashion advice being only a tiny one.  Lorelai and Rory truly make the best out of everything, and because of that they have many memorable adventures.  Each day I strive to see the glass as half full, in both the little things and the big things.  I love meeting people, reading books, and watching television shows that inspire me to do so.

Thank you so much for reading,

xo, Carly
